I finally figured out i want a dslr with a video option that has autofocus.

I have at home the sony a57 (as recommended in a previous thread) and am not very impressed by the lcd screen at the back and some of the picture quality (when compared to the canon t2i and t3i).

Any thoughts on the Nikon 5200? It as well has the image stabilization and auto focus in video mode...IS THIS a superior camera to the Sony? On paper the Sony looks really good - even better in some aspects...

I find the Sony to be superior in all aspects when shooting video. What kind of lens are you using. If you are using the kit lens (18-55) then that is probably your quality issue. The only issue I have with the Sony I use is the overheating issue when the steadyshot is on but its manageable once you learn how. The screen is pretty small but you can get a 5 or 7 inch screen and connect it via the mini hdmi for monitoring while shooting video. Make sure the settings are set properly as well, 1080 on my A33 is great now that I have a decent lens.
