Due to ill health over recent years I can only carry a Bridge camera. I first bought the RX10 M4 a couple of years ago, it is the world's best Bridge camera. 6 months ago I thought maybe I could reduce the weight I have to carry even more by buying a lighter camera. Having tried a few others and not getting the results that I am used to I became very despondent. While looking for a better camera online I stumbled on a camera shop selling the RX10 for £300 off. So in a few days, I will be back with the best.

Well, I went ahead and did it, and I'm glad I did. I was getting concerned that I was going to have to step away from the hobby, but the RX10M4 is in fact a very good camera, and for my level of skill or lack thereof, fits the bill perfectly. Just wish I had known this earlier. :)

G'day all

I'm the same but use Lumix cameras .... and love the superzoom
Back 20 yrs ago when I abandoned film SLRs plus many other lenses, I had my first 10x zoom - 3Mpx superzoom and was hooked on their versatility and lens performance. Today the only camera that travels with me daily is the superzoom (the Lumix FZ-300 usually)

At home, my house walls are littered with prints up to 36" wide (but mostly 20" wide prints) from all over Aussie-land and no-one who ever visits comments about any so-called sharpness issues from the superzoom sensor or lens. Can't see any use for a dSLR any more !

One of the things that got me to consider a bridge camera again, was that I have a Canon SX10 which delivered great results, but it uses AA batteries and eats them like a toddler with a bag of M&M's, so I wanted something with rechargeable batts that could be recharged in camera if necessary.

Never seriously considered this type. Always found primes delivered better IQ when I zoomed with my feet.
Shoot often with a Fuji X-100T and Ricoh GR II when IQ and incognito style require an ultralight-weight camera. Recall regularly taking in my FIL's superzoom cameras for repair when he busted the fragile zoom mechanics. Horses for courses, as usual.

G'day mate

This is drifting a bit from the OP's thread ..... but how many of us today -regularly- create prints of 20" wide or more? Thus to me the IQ of the superzoom is well up to creating a decent sharp image.

There is little argument that a Fullframe dSLR with a damn good prime will produce a superb image, but the cameras we are talking about here only cost 1/4 ?? of the others and in our opinion, create an image of 95% the alternate units

No argument, just stating a preference. BTW, I've yet to be tempted to ditch my trailing edge, 16-24mp APS-C kits for "bigger and better."

G'day all

While acknowledging Jeff's OP, may I bump this post with several images to show the wonderful versatility of these cameras.

We're "on he wallaby" (Aussie slang for we've hit the road Jack...) and sitting quietly in a park I could hear the squark of cockatoos and corellas (similar birds) in a tree about 35metres / 120 feet away. The Lumix FZ-300 (24x zoom) was on the table alongside me, so here's 3- images

1)- the tree some 30m away

exif- FZ-300, 1/640s x F4,0; 1x zoom, ISO-100

2)- the image at 24x zoom (435mm Equiv dSLR / 625mm equiv FFrame)

exif as above, 24x zoom

3)- a crop from above

Nice! I am liking the camera, and so are my feeblish arms these days... 😂 Now, if the weather would just cooperate, I'd like to take it out. So far either too hot, or on days where I'm off, it seems to always rain. This weekend looks promising, though.
