Spammers

Is there a thing that if someone keeps posting threads and there isn't a mod online but regular peons report their posts enough so that the user gets blocked from posting until a mod decides whether or not that person is a spammer and can take action before the spammer takes over the forum?

Uh... did that make sense?

So, is that a thing? If not, it probably should be a thing.

If you mean; can members report spam posts, the answer is yes.

If enough people report someone (or enough of a user's threads are reported), they should be placed in quarantine until a mod can take over.

Essentially,
if you were on about 45 minutes ago a new poster started posting pure junk.
Titles were about 1-1/2 lines long of pure junk
And the posting itself was essentially "asdfasdfadfa asd fasdf asdf a asdf asd "

There was at least 15 of those in quick succession.

Thus, if a poster gets enough "REPORTS" against them in a short time frame.
Then all their posts should be put in a hidden place until reviewed.
And the poster would be suspended until reviewed.

No we don't have such a feature. In general if a spammer is around you only have to report it once and the mods will come online and deal with it = we get emails about it to our email.

Such a feature might be possible (you'd hvae to talk to the tech people about that) but in general we don't get enough spam of enough volume like that to make it a required feature in demand. Much of the time its just the odd post here and there. In addition such systems can be abused - often when people cotton onto that they are in use and then spam-reporting legitimate users posts to get another user blocked for a while (petty but some would do it).


In general we don't get that much spam and al ot of what we do get is caught by the forums anti-spam software (users never see that spam). That combined with manual removal of spam has worked well for us thus far and our software allows us to strip a spambot out with only a few clicks no matter how much spam they spam

It was annoying though, as my first full page of articles was mostly spam listing and maybe 3 legitimate ones. Well, except for the Tony N ISO v Sensor size thread, and the Lens Hype, What is really a good lens thread.

It was surprising to see but taken care of quickly.
It was just pure junk which was the annoying park covering the page. It wasn't even links to an offsite page or trying to sell something. Just pure junk.

Yes, there was a lot of annoying spam this morning and I am sure I am not the only one to have reported it.

Yes, that was a garbled OP - I blame too much sun

But yes I did understand it because I've seen much much worse but still got the meaning. I understood it to mean the same thing as you explained.
