2) We don't allow swansongs - a general "I'm off for the holidays see you in a few weeks" is fine - but swansong leaving threads are always removed from sight.

I guess someone missed this one: http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/off-topic-chat/295662-anyone-interested.html

I saw the very, very short, simple and direct "Good bye" post that Schwettylens posted this morning, and so I was utterly shocked to see that it was immediately pulled, while o hey tyer's dramatic, insulting, and petulant flounce outta' here, replete with insults, was allowed to go on and on and on...it just did not seem right that Schwetty's brief good bye post was not allowed to stand after o hey tyler made such an insulting and self-aggrandizing exit...just does NOT seem like consistent moderation here, A-TALL...

nope, NOT at all.. but I wonder, did the fact that it was schwetty make a difference? especially after the last incident, wouldn't be surprised to find out he got his post deleted on a grudge. (Im NOT saying that is the case, just that I would NOT be surprised) I would love to know who actually deleted the thread. I have my thoughts on that. I could be wrong. either way though, I think it is definitely inconsistent.

I have to agree. There was simply nothing derogatory to his post. Short and sweet: He started photography as a hobby, it turned into a business and he didn't want to assoicate his professional work with a screen name such as "Schweetylens" He asked the mods to change his screen name to his proper name and if they won't do it, he'd have to move on. Period. I really think this was a knee jerk reaction that possibly should be reconsidered. Mods do have a thankless job and without them, chaos soon follows. My hats off to them, but I really think this may have been a little over jealous.

^^if that were the case, where would I fit in?

Lol you keep people on their toes.

Look, I'm not advocating the permitting of swansongs. I think anyone who writes out an elaborate goodbye is just looking for attention, or wants to go out in a big bang.

I am, however, asking for at least some attempt at consistency on the part of the mods. All I see now is each mod doing things there own way. Keith, John, Mike and whatever the other mods real names are, all follow different rules it seems. That's really frustrating.

I'm done here.

Sorry, IByte. I couldn't resist. :sexywink:

I'm really gonna miss Robin.

Tyler didn't just leave, he flounced. With great style.

As I said, there are always TWO sides and we only saw ONE.

I'm pretty sure we all know who's behind the deletion. Robin's good stuff. He and I bumped heads for a while but I consider him an internet friend now. I think asking for a name change from a valued member of the site should be honored. I hope said moderator forwarded this easy request up the chain to the admins, but most likely shelved it in hopes that all the talent completely leaves the site so he'll have full rule over the kingdom.

You're right, different mods do moderate differently. Oddly enough, we're actually people too, and while TPF has a pretty clear set of guidelines for most situations, not all of us interpret a given post or issue identically. We do however do our best to ensure uniformity and unbiased moderating. Issues or concerns regarding any moderator or moderator's action, please contact the TPF Administrators.

Yeah, that's a great way to waste time. The TPF admins care about ad revenue and lurkers who click the links. Keith made it very clear that their priority is NOT registered members.

I think if you were to ask most of the regularly posting members, they'd tell you that the mods are most certainly not unbiased or uniformly enforcing the guidelines.

Maybe you can help me out here instead of towing the party line, John. What are the requirements for a mod to delete a thread or post? Are they clearly defined, or left to the whims of each individual mod?
The reality is, other than out-right SPAM, VERY few threads get deleted at TPF. I'm not aware of Schwetty's situation, but I'll ask. There are certain clear-cut guidelines: Threads about guns/weapons (Just learned about that one myself a few days ago... :blushing: ), religion, and politics of course, and "flounce" posts, will be deleted as soon as they're seen. Generally, about the only time I will delete a post outside of that is when it's turned into such a train-wreck that editing out all the "bad stuff" would take more time than I have.

Well one mod kind of tried to explain it but that side's argument seemed rather weak.

"We don't allow swansongs."

Well thanks for telling us now after we've had several with no problems. :/

I mean, there is a thread in Photographic Discussion right now about Photographers Who Live in the Past.
That thread is just dripping with controversy and button-pushing, yet they take a stab at a farewell thread instead?

Kinda strange....

True. I'm fairly new here and have only read his posts for a short while.
