Strobist style portraits.

I had some free time this evening and decided to work with my strobes. I didn't have a hot model to work with, so I took them of myself.

These are pretty "flashy". What were your settings? If you use a slower shutter speed (like 1/30 or 1/60) you will pull in more ambient light. Is there anything you can bounce the flash off (a reflector or side of a light-colored building)? The flash looks pretty harsh and is making a lot of shadows. Keep trying!

It was pretty much dark outside, so that was about all the ambient light i could get. I decided to go with the direct flash, and not diffuse it, because of some of the new PS techniques I want to try out. Ill post them when i get a few processed.... well if they look any good

Number 4 is definitely the best. The left light is a little hot for my taste but well done indeed.

Oh and i wish that either of the lights i used were hot.... it was freakin cold out there!

I agree with Garbz on the forth...did you snoot that one?

All of these look like they needed a snoot though, only because it's night time.

It looks like you are using two lights, one to the side, and one to the back. Am I right?
