This is sunrise over the US Army Corps of Engineering Research pier in Duck, North Carolina. The second and third pictures are of one of their more interesting pieces of equipment known as the CRAB. CRAB is an acronym for Coastal Research Amphibious Buggy and is used to collect sediment samples, map the ocean floor, and occasionally make equipment repairs on the pier. Each of the wheels is taller than a person and is filled with liquid for keeping it stabilized in water. It is capable of going to depths of approximately 30 feet. If you look closely you can see a dolphin that I didn't realize surfaced in the first picture.
