Sunset In The Marshlands

As the angle o' the sun drops lower on the horizon it kisses the marshland grasses with its cast o'warming light. A wood duck nesting box, one o' many maintained on a pond owned by our gun club, it will provide a cavity for a hen to rear her brood in come spring. The sheet metal facing on the box is a predator guard to fend off raccoons and other egg eaters, an aid to boosting brood success. Our members tend to these boxes prior to the nesting season each winter. We make needed repairs, check for eggshell fragmentation that would indicate brood success, and replace cedar shavings as bedding material for the eggs to be laid in. Waterfowl conservation is just one of several initiatives our club engages in that benefits both game and non-game species. Our preservation of this vital wetlands habitat is a critical element in maintaining renewable wildlife resources.

I like the subject and the exposure looks good. I think this would look better without the frame.

Cheers
