I'm just now learning the manual settings on my D90 and took this pic on shutter priority last weekend. I think it came out pretty good!

thoughts?

i like it, nice composition but... kinda underexposed and the blur in foreground is upsetting. nice work for first pic ;)

l.e. : shooting in the sun will give you that sun flare...

I don't know how I feel about it. Part of me is bothered by the underexposure of the foreground. I almost feel like you should either brighten it up (probably not possibly without adding noise) or darken it some more (might lose too much detail and too much interest)....Don't know....I'm confused because I don't hate it...but feel like there's something missing..maybe in post.

Do you have a color version? I wonder what it looked like. Also, it may be me, but is it tilted slightly to the right?

Thanks. I actually tried to get that sun flare in the pic, so I got what I was going for. :D

I do have a color version:

I think I like the color version better. Add some saturation to the sky and desaturate the red sun flare a little so it doesn't stand out and it would be even better.

Its a really nice pic!

There are some points that can be improved, but its definatly a sign of other great pics to come! :)

Things like the fact that the picture foreground is so dark and has a lack of detail. I'd also like to see the entire steeple in the picture, you cut out the top. But really, nice job!

That does it...now I like the shot with some better editing. Fix the halo around the church and you have a winner.

Just out of curiosity, why shutter priority mode?

Just because I'm such a noob, I still don't know much about exposure so I'm getting used to playing around with shutter and not worrying about the aperture as much yet. Once I'm comfortable with choosing shutter speeds I'll move on. :blushing:

With nothing moving in the image, aperture becomes the more critical exposure setting. The other factor that would have helped is to spot meter the facade of the church and the sky for your exposure values extremes.

You might like to look at my blog. The link is down there in my siggy. It's specifically about the basics of manual exposure.
