Supposedly the model for Big Bird...

Read somewhere that Jim Henson modeled the Sesame St Big Bird after this goofy sucker. It's a Reddish Egret. They fish by running around in the shallows like drunken stilt walkers with their wings outspread. The running -hopping spooks the fish and the outspread wings prove shade to cut the glare allowing the bird to see the fish better...or so the bird biologists say anyway....I just think they are uncoordinated feathered clowns.
