Taking a photography class, need some suggestions please! (:

MMMMm perhaps I am mistaken, but i looked into the G2 and all I got was a P&S.
Perhaps I fat fingered the search.
My mistake.

I love my F100, but for a beginner photo class, I would steer clear of cameras with auto features. FULLY MANUAL cameras with simplistic controls (K1000, Nikon FE/FM, Canon A1/AE1, to name a few) will help you learn more about photography without technology getting in the way.

You're not really wrong, just left out some of your search.

"Canon G2" and "Canon EOS Rebel G2" are two different cameras.

Having bought a F100 (an amazing camera to be sure) for my Intro to B&W Photo class and having wished for a manual control camera since then (eye on FM, FM10, F2AS, etc.), I say

I would consider Nikon and Canon to be the ships-of-the-line with the older 35mm SLR's, to be sure. But gunboats like Pentax and Minolta will leave you more financial elbow room for peripheral supplies (ie. film and paper and lab fees).
