I have FINALLY figured out how to proccess NEF files from my D70s (Photoshop CS2 + Camera Raw 3.1). This is one of the first photos from my D70s, please do critique it. I'm a little bit overwhelmed by the D70s - it's my first DSLR, and I'm learning so much every time I go out.

now thats a jump! very well composed - you definately caught the action here. the flash use makes the rear yard look like a backdrop. very cool! im not sure what you were going after besides the action but you nailed it IMO. in camera flash?

anyone else?

I don't have much in the way of a critique, but I am curious, did you use the slow sync flash to freeze the action?

Yes, a slow-sync flash. The reason it looks like a shadow is because after the flash went off, his feet were blocking the light from the background (it was really dark out - so his feet would have been black without the flash), so you get the black streak. I still can't beleive how high he jumped!
