Tele Converter on Canon EF 180mm Macro L

Has anyone tried to use a 1.4 or 2x TC on Canon EF 180mm f/3.5 L Macro? Just wondering if it was worth a try or to just pony up for a larger prime. As is, the depth of field is as thin as paper so I have reservations about extending it. Was not able to find any reviews anywhere concerning this. Thanks for the help.

I think it is defintely worth a try before buying a larger prime. I believe you have to have an extension tube inbetween though due to the 'extension' of the glass from the TC and how close the glass is in the macro lenses . Wouldn't want to be scrapping it!

I have a 100mm f/2.8 macro and strapped on a 1.4 TC, a 25mm extension tube (I believe), and then the lens. I assume this is for macros, in which case, use a tripod! Even with a tripod I was having trouble getting a sharp image when a couple mm long chicken embryo for a project.
