Testing a used lens

I just bought a used lens in the Internet - sight unseen. I've got a few days to test it to make sure it's in the condition the current owner describes.

What's the best way to test this lens? It's a Nikon 70-200 vr ii.

Take pictures

Full zoom at lowest aperture. Make sure it's sharp. Make sure the focus ring moves smoothly as well as zoom ring. Make sure it focuses where you want it to (AF). Check for weird noises/movement.

Set up a ruler with some coins and check the auto focus. Take shots with it and then with your "GO TO" lens and compare the two.
