Okay, I know that what I had in my mind, and what was exposed are 2 different things here.

What I had in mind was a nice black and white with only the following visible: the keyboard, sheet music, bourbon, and cigarette smoke.

First, I know the lighting was amiss, and I know that I didn't capture the DOF that I was going for.

What suggestions can you offer, and what are your thoughts of the overall composition?

agree with your own critque, like the comp except the glass. looks like it's about to fall over which causes me personally a sense of anxiety in an otherwise calm setting.
