Couroupita guianensis is an unusual tree native to the southern Caribbean and Central America. It is planted in many warm climates because of it's decorative and sweet smelling flowers that can be present in huge racemes. The fruits really are the size of cannon balls. It has been planted along many boulevards in the city of Cali.

Interesting - lovely flowers. Are the fruits edible and, if so, how do they taste?

The fruit evidently has a very bad smell that would discourage consumption by humans but pigs and chickens like it well enough.
