Hmm doesn't really do anything for me. I'd say try to get a more original angle. Maybe get closer and lower if you can.

to me there just isnt anything interesting going on in the picture. Maybe try focusing more on the water coming over the damn instead of the pond below

The limited inclusion of grass in the foreground I find a bit distracting. I think the original image is better, but it slopes away to the left. Somehow reshoot ..you mention you can go back there sometime.

Composition is lacking. There is no direction, nothing to settle on. When you go back, look for something you find interesting, and take it in such a way that emphasizes what you see.

I lost the morning lighting but how's this? I tried to focus on the symmetry and relationship between the dam and the hillside.
