The weather around here hasn't been cooperating so I decided to cure my photo addiction with some indoor shots. This picture was taken with tungsten light to get the color you see here. No Photoshop was used.

Got any other style chess pieces? One of the sets with more detailed peices would look great in that shot!
Thanks for commenting LizM. The cheapo chess set I got doesn't have much detail to begin with. The knight piece is pretty much the one with the most shapely look to it. I really don't play chess that often to get a better set...I play maybe once a year. ;)

If you want to try the shot with other pieces haunt the local thrift shop. You may be able to pick up just the pieces you want for a quarter or so.

Again, really great shot!

I was expecting to see a picture of Elvis!

Thanks again for all the nice comments. I appreciate it.

Yes, that's a good idea.

Are those translucent? Or is that just the way it is reflecting off the surface?
They are semi-translucent so it's a combination of both.

I thought someone might say that. I guess I should have picked a better title. ;)

lovely light! and composition.... Put it in the critique forum :) But even though I would find anything to critique here

I have a chess set just like that. Is the chessboard glass as well? I think the chessboard would be a more fitting stage for this shot, or at least something flat.

I've taken some similar shots. Chess pieces make great subjects. Nice work :)

Love the shot, If I was making some kinda chess company, or something that would be the pic I would want.

Yes, the chessboard is also glass but I thought it was designed in a tacky way. I've seen better designed glass boards so I decided not to use it. I've also seen a lot of chess shots with flat surfaces I wanted to get out of the cliche. I was also trying to get some shadow ridges with my blanket to give it more depth but I don't know if that turned out so well. I'll probably try a flat surface next time though. Thanks for the comment Matt and to all the new comments too.
