The one that got away!

I was sitting down by the river today waiting for some birds to come have a bath and this little guy happened along. There was something "off" about him but I couldn't immediately put my finger on it, I thought it was just young and "plump". Then it dawned on me, it had no tail! I looked it up and it seems that it is likely "the one that got away" from a cat. His butt seems no worse for the experience, no injury etc... and apparently if he makes it (he's pretty awkward but can fly!) it will grow back next spring I'm rootin for ya little guy!
























Bonus picture! While I was sitting there this guy came along, I've been trying to get a shot of him for a few days. We had a bald one last year also and it's plumage grew back, apparently it is probably a parasite, there is a bald Common Grackle hanging around too.
