It's a nice picture, I like the colour of the mask but I think, like you said, that it's too tightly cropped...
did you use selective colouring?

(maybe you could post the shot in a larger version, that would make viewing a bit easier..)

Your photos are interesting, but like with the knife photo, they are displayed too small which makes it hard for the viewer to really appreciate the photograph and it's detail. Perhaps a size somewhere between 600-800 (longest side) in length or width would really help give us more to view.

i think i might have resized during RAW conversion.
