Ok, well I should probably start off by saying that the items below are all on my wishlist, things I'd like to acquire eventually, just trying to decide what would be best as far as when to buy each item and though I'd throw this out to there and just see if anyone else had any thoughts on the matter, or alternatives I should consider.

A couple of items I'm considering purchasing:

Black Rapid Yeti - Dual strap system. I'm also considering the Black Rapid RSD-1. I have an inexpensive dual strap I've been using, but I'd like something a little more upscale/comfortable when I'm carrying both cameras. I have two RS-5 Cargo's already and I love them, but wasn't all that thrilled with the connect-R straps, I'd like to have a dedicated strap for when I'm carrying both cameras.

Sandisk Extreme Pro 64 GB card - at the moment I have a 64 GB in my primary camera, a 16 GB in my secondary/backup camera. Would be nice to put a 64 gb in the second camera and that way I wouldn't have to worry about which is which before I go to slap lenses on them, and move the 16 gb back into the camera bag for a backup in case one of the other cards somehow ever manages to get filled (hasn't happened yet, but you never know)

Carbon Fiber Monopod - I don't normally use a monopod when shooting, especially in the summer - but in the winter I'll be attending/shooting a lot of sporting events at the local high school gym - I've found that having a monopod for these occasions is fantastic, I can mount the camera to it, it's easy to deploy even in the bleachers and I'm not stuck hoisting the camera for the entire time I'm there shooting. I have an older, non-carbon fiber version but it was a cheap replacement I bought some time ago, and it's in need of replacement itself, the locking mechanisms keep needing to be tightened with an allen wrench between outings so I'd like to get something lighter weight/sturdier that I don't have to mess with quite so much.

GAS!!!

kidding! I'd go memory card, strap, monopod.

It's not winter yet, but you need to have a backup for your memory cards first off. Then you need to be comfortable.

That's how I'd look at it.

I agree with Bright--memory card, strap, monopod. Or just sell some plasma and buy all three at once. :lmao:

I just wouldn't *personally* buy the 64gb; I buy Sandisk Extreme Pro 16gb cards. I'd rather have several 16gb cards than one 64gb. Not only does that mean the most I'd lose at a time is 16gb worth of photos, should something happen to the card, but I also know myself--if I had a 64gb card, I'd wait until it was nearly full to take the photos off and do my backups. Granted, I have a D7000 with dual card slots, so I can still have instant access to 32gb worth of card space. But I do the same thing with my backup D5100, 16gb card is my max.
Obviously, others feel differently, or they wouldn't sell enough 64gb cards to keep them on the market.

Possible accessory upgrades might be:

Earrings, necklace........ and a purse that matches your shoes.

Oh, wait.......... wrong forum! :er:

I'm with sm4him.... 64g may sound tempting, but if you are ever out shooting and the card gets corrupted, you're gonna be hurting. Four 16s or a pair of 32s would be a better choice, IMHO.

Well my own regime, I format the cards and go shoot for the day, as soon as I'm done I come home, the stuff gets transferred to the computer and the cards get reformatted again. That's pretty much my standard approach, so I never have more than 1 day's worth of pictures on the card at any given time and it's cleared off at the end of the day. Might give some thought to just getting a couple of more 16 gb's though, the idea behind the 64 is it wouldn't matter which body I grabbed because they'd both be setup the same, but I can always do something else to differentiate the two so I don't have to open the memory card slot and check which is which.. lol.

Buy refurb'd SD cards and they cost about $100 each for 64GB 95/90 mb/sec
I bought my CF monopod with a head for $89 on eBay .... some good values out there if you can wait for them

That's silly. They don't make a purse that will match these shoes.. lol.

Might give some thought to multiple cards - never had a problem just using the single but I don't really "store" images on them long term either, they get cleaned off and transferred to the computer as soon as I get home. Saves me the hassle of swapping cards in the field, and since I don't shoot professionally if I did lose some images it wouldn't be the end of the world by any means, but maybe I'll look at getting multiple smaller cards for the second camera instead - might not be bad to have both.

I'd stop wasting money on 64 gigabyte cards...like last year...
Carbon fiber monopod, sure. New carry system, sure, why not. $1,000 Western Union wire transfer to Derrel, sure, why not.

Ok.. is that Derrel with one L or.. HEY.. wait a minute! You and your damn subliminal mind trickery.. lol.

I think I may just go with the strap and another 16 gb card or two - I'd like to have a couple of extra on hand just in case. I will be getting the monopod eventually but I've got plenty of time on that one. Well truth be told I've got plenty of time on all this stuff, it's all in the "might be nice to have" category but nothing I can't live without. I mean it's not like it's a lens, or something.. lol

If you're going to carry that monopod a lot then carbon fiber would be the way to go. If not then aluminum is a lot cheaper. Either way they honestly don't weigh very much.

Contrary to most others I do use large memory cards. I have (2) 64gb cards in both my bodies and love it that way. One is primary, the other is backup. The odds of both failing at the same time is pretty slim so I don't worry about losing anything.

Black Rapid, I haven't used the dual harness but I do have an R7 that I really like. It goes just about everywhere with me.

Unfortunately, the OP's D5200's don't have that option.

I have two RS-5 Cargo's myself, love them - I'm leaning towards the Yeti for the dual strap solution. I'll miss having some of the storage the RS-5's offer but I'm thinking I can get a Bryce add on for that for the yeti, and maybe even sell off one my RS-5's as well since I can use the yeti as a single strap as well on those occasions when my daughter comes out shooting with me.

Sadly my 5200's will only take one memory card at a time, but so far at least I've never had a problem with my SD cards getting corrupted or losing any information. Since I clean them off completely every time I go out and shoot that might have something to do with it, but I think it might be nice to have multiple 16's, when I am shooting both cameras I usually mount the 50 mm on the second camera and it doesn't usually get anywhere near as much use as the 70-200 mm (which usually goes on the camera with the 64 gb card), if I go with a couple of extra 16's if I need to I can swap in a new card should I actually manage to fill one of the others (hasn't happened yet but you never know) and I've got a couple of extra in my bag for any given emergency.

I only use 8gb cards. Why? I'd rather switch out every few hundred photo's, so if something were to happen, I wouldn't have lost everything..
