Traded my 35mm prime for a variable.

Well, not really traded. I was still within my return policy for the 35mm, so I returned it to fund a Sigma 17-70mm 2.8. Here's an uber cropped shot of the image produced at 62mm 1/125 sec; f/8; ISO 160. It's not as sharp as the 35mm, but I don't think it's so soft that it warrants me to have the 35mm as well. Thoughts? I figured that my 60mm and 105mm will be good enough for portraits.

Sharp enough!
And while I never used or owned a 105mm lens I do own the 60mm and it will be just fine for portraits, I used mine more then few time doing portraits and was very pleased with the results.

looks good to me. if you think so too then you made the right decision. the zoom is more versatile anyway

Looks good. I recently got the Sigma 17-70 and really like it also. It is great with my 5100. Taking it on a short FL vacation next week and I may leave the rest at home to keep it simple.
