My compliments upon your visual observations ... it takes one into different territory than many other conversations (and I also have many tree trunks / peeling bark / etc images)

A small thought for next time ... try to get the focus sharp for all the trunk in the frame, and if possible, tone down the bright-splotchy bits in the leaves (either in PP or by moving the camera sideways a bit before exposure)

Thank you, Ozzie. It was shot at f1.2 so the depth of field was very small. I should have tried a slightly smaller aperture.

That's all okay mate ... there's no "should" about it when you are learning and experimenting
