I like shooting large format with my 4x5, but could you imagine using this?

That would be awesome. I hope they're not taking wildlife photography...."Oh crap, they moved...get the truck ready." :lmao:

i think i've seen that before...from memory it was used to take a photo of a train and it was so big because the lenses were so undeveloped?

Close! It had to be transported by train and took a crew of fifteen to setup and operate. It is a glass plate camera that makes a 4.5ft x 8ft image.

Is that the size of the image or the size of the negative. If it's the size of the negative...WOW I could not imagine what kind of machine you would need to make a print. :hail:

I couldn't believe it when I read it either, but that is the negative according to the description. I imagine the quality wasn't up to par with what we are used to seeing by our generation's tech standards of film. Gotta give um credit for being that ambitious though.

Ilford are taking orders for a special run of ultra large format film that they are going to make next year. Here are the sizes and prices for packs of 25 sheets of HP5, and FP4 is available in the same sizes (US dollars, not sure about the arrangements for the UK yet):

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]HP5 Plus 5x12 $82.10 TBA
HP5 Plus 6.5x8.5 $75.60 TBA
HP5 Plus 7x11 $105.36 TBA
HP5 Plus 7x17 $162.83 1707043
HP5 Plus 8x20 $218.92 1786024
HP5 Plus 10x12 $164.19 1796052
HP5 Plus 12x20 $328.39 1707052
HP5 Plus 14x17 $325.65 1900589
HP5 Plus 16x20 $437.85 1871788
HP5 Plus 20x24 $656.77 1721124

Those sizes are in inches. So, 20x24... What is that in megapixels?

That got me curious. If I did the math right, a 20x24 neg at a resolution of 50 lpm = 50800 x 60960 pixels @ 2540 dpi in 8 bit RGB gives you a file size of 8.65G. 17.3G for 16 bit. Hmmm..........

That's assuming you can get a lens which can resolve the damn thing :er:

Could you imagine what it would take for the neg size of that 'big' old camera? I'm sure the technology is there, but it would probably cost more then the gnp of most small countries.

Nah... Depends on the aperture you want.

How about the machine that you would need to make a print. It's got to be the size of a plane hanger. Lol

They used that for my school photo.

The last school photo I was in, they used one of those rotating cameras, where the whole school was arranged in a semi-circle, and the camera turned while making the exposure, so we looked like we were in one very long straight line:

Legend has it that if you were very fast, and none of the teachers noticed, you could run from one end to the other and so appear in the picture twice.
