Upgrade from D7000

I'm using a class 10 card.

I only take maybe 3 shots in succession when I am not in single shot mode.

Sometimes it takes 3-4 seconds until the hour glass goes away.

Yikes! 3-4 seconds does not sound right with just 3 shots. Krsinct is shooting bif with the D7100 and I am sure he is not having that issue. You may want to dig a little further to find the issue. (I can't remember what his situation was, but I believe he had the camera replaced or at least repaired)

I used to have those issues too
You have to turn off all the "helper" features to get a faster camera
It's like a NIGHT and DAY difference.

I'll check my d7000 when it's done doing a time lapse thing using my built-in NIkon intervalometer ...

turn these off

SHOOTING MENU
Role played by slot 2 -- Overflow
Active D-Lighting - OFF
Long exp NR - off
High ISO NR - off

I think that's it .... then try it

I chatted with CoastalConn too about my slow d600 when I first got it and he had just used one prior. Now the d600 sings along too

Also, going to a high speed card like the
Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s card will make a dramatic difference in save speed

Night and day difference. I ONLY use extreme pro cards in mine now. Totally worth every penny.

The only thing that I didn't already have that way was High ISO NR.

Maybe I need to try the Extreme cards like you guys are talking about.

Oh yeah, that will definitely double the speed if you don't have them.

Think about it .. if you cards are 40mb/sec .. and you go to 90 .... The cards are labele as "95" but that is read speed. They write at 90 mb/sec
SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC and SDXC UHS-I Memory Cards by SanDisk

I started out using 10mb/sec cards
Then I used 40 .. wow what a difference
then I used the 90s ... wow what a difference

I just noticed that they have their 280 mb/sec read / 250 write cards out now. But those are not compatible if I understand correctly with the existing technology in our cameras.

If you buy them off of ebay as a refurb .. the sticker shock goes away.

be careful with the Extremes. There's two versions of them. A 45mb/sec and the 95s.
of course, get the faster ones.

The cards? How do they list a card as refurb? I didn't even know that was a thing... Need to look into this now lol

The last refurbished 16GB Extreme Pro 95 card I bought in Feb of this year I paid $29.98 shipped (US CONUS)

I see the 16GB going for $38 new (from what I read) from other sellers as I peruse ebay

Any other reason as to why you aren't considering a new lens or even two instead of a body upgrade? Looking at your Flickr, it appears you only have the 18-105 kit lens? Buying a lens or two like a 35mm f1.8G and/or the 85mm f1.8G would be a MUCH better option IMO. Those two lenses would dramatically increase your IQ and low light capabilities (both of which seem important to you).

I would suggest getting lenses, then body later. The D7000 is a perfectly capable camera.
