Hello. I have a Fuji HS20 EXR I purchased back in 2011. I love the 30x zoom and colour processing but the 16Mp is becoming a limiting factor.
Could you suggest an upgrade with similar performance but a higher resolution sensor please?

There are a few current super-zoom bridge cameras available. BTW, it's less pixel count than sensor size that's the limiting factor with your Fuji.

G'day Kiff

I started digital life with a Fuji S-5000 (a magic camera) then later graduated to the Fuji X-S1 - which was -not- such a magic camera. When investigating 'better' -read more suitable for my type of stuff- I ended up with Panasonic Lumix cameras

There are several Lumix FZ models with long-zoom lenses if this is more important than sensor size. However, if you are finding that the small sensor is no longer working for you, then maybe something with the 1"-sensor might do. Still gives a good zoom range without too heavy a body to go with it

Maybe the Lumix FZ-1000 mk-2, or if you want the spunky zoom of the FZ-2000/2500 (name changes for different markets) will do the job. Otherwise the Sony equivalent, the RX-10 mk-4 could satisfy (tho it is quite expensive)

These days I have the Lumix FZ-300 for a walk-around camera plus theatre / low-light work, and the Lumix FZ-2500 for other stuff like weddings etc

Edit- also, you will find with any new camera, that the in-camera sophistication has advanced considerably over the past decade - so the image quality + lens sharpness + menu features will be much better than before

Hope this helps
Phil

Thanks ever so much to both for your advice.
Now I know the best features to look for and the Lumix FZ-1000 mk-2 or the FZ-2000/2500 look like good contenders.
Of the two, the 1000 mk2 looks the better value but I do some video work and maybe the 2000 would be worth the extra cost. The old HS-20 is very noisy at low light levels and it would be great to be able to improve on it.
Thanks again. That has been very helpful.

Hi Kiff

The Lumix FZ-300, the FZ-1000 & FZ-2500 all are well setup for video work -and- stills as we are used to
The -1000 & -2500 with the 1" sensor are larger & heavier that the -300. The -1000 zoom lens trombones out when extended, whereas the -2500 lens has internal zooming, so its lens barrel never alters in length during use

The -2500 has the built-in ND filter and if memory is correct, better v-log capabilities (but at extra cost to download the software). All have zebra patterning for exposure control during video use

The huge advantage of the -300 is its constant aperture F2,8 lens ... with it remaining at F2,8 right thru its 24x zoom range. In this case Panny have kept the sensor to 12mpx to avoid noise as much as possible, but as with every sensor (and film) if the light level is so low it and even our eyes are struggling, then coloured artifacts will appear

You might consider downloading each user manual to sqwiz the features and compare them with other possibles
Hope this helps
Phil
