Can others edit my Photos

Hey All,

I currently own a Nikon D5100 with many lenses. I am upgrading to a D800 body, but don't quite have the funds to invest in full frame lenses that go with it just yet. I have a wedding coming up in May that I need to photograph. Can I use the cropped lenses I have for the D5100 until I raise enough money to afford new lenses, and how will that effect my photos?

Thanks,
Joe

Rather than buy the d800, I would suggest buying lenses. Poor lenses will affect the d800 unless you plan on using it in its crop mode and if that's the case, I would just stick with what you have. Another option is renting lenses.

what lenses do you currently have?

All DX lenses will work on an FX body and all FX bodies have a DX-lens mode.
I am very curious does DX lenses on FX body change in any way the FX camera low light performance ?

Yeah, I'm thinking I may have to rent. Seeing if I could avoid the hassle and cost.

I have a Nikkor AF-S DX VR 55-200 f4-5.6, 18-35 f3.5-5.6, and 50mm f1.8 portrait lens currently

if it were me, I'd sell the 55-200 and 18-55 and just use the 50mm, then rent a fast tele and flashes for your wedding you are unprepared for with the money you made from selling the two lenses. But I just wouldn't buy such an expensive body without being able to afford lenses.

ymmv.

+1

Your not going to want to use cheap glass with this camera.

Either rent lenses for your shoot or wait until you can afford better fast glass.

You will turn that 36 mp camera into a 6mp camera with slow glass. Since it has so many pixels any motion will be very noticeable.

That's a good idea. I'm an assistant photographer for the wedding. Trying to be as prepared as possible. I wanted to still be able to use my D5100 as a backup camera, but I at least wouldn't really need the 18-55 if that's the case. Thanks.

wait, it's really an 18-35? i thought that was a typo for the 18-55.

so you only have 1 lens, out of 3, that's a DX lens?
