    Hi guys,

    Firstly happy new year!

Secondly, does anyone know if I can use my fathers old Chinon S-280 flash with any of my canon EOS bodies?

It has the hot shoe with 2 pins but before I just slap it on I wanted to know if anyone has tried this.

I can't seem to find any info on the net.

    Thanks in advance...

    Paul.

It can be problematic to use flashes designed for film cameras on digital SLRs- something about the high flash voltage blowing out all the DSLRs delicate circuitry. There are lists around of old flash units that are "safe" but I'm not sure I'd trust them. For example, most Canon DSLRs use around 6 volts for their flash, whereas old film flashes sometimes generate 600v or more. Not good.

I'd leave it in the drawer.
