Video editing options

Hi all

I got free version of powerdirector14 during the week trying to test the waters with video editing. It's a disaster because almost everything I try requires an upgrade. It does not see MOV files from my Nikon d7200, so I have to convert first so it's far from ideal

I'll likely download version 15 trial along with premier elements 15 and see if either is worth buying for my needs. I'm very new to this video editing, I would like to be able to do basic edits and put on a dvd that plays in a regular dvd player.

Are the two options I'm going to try good options or are there better ones in similar cost bracket, thanks
