Thank you everyone. Well, He was standing at the front door and the sunlight was hitting his face, then behind him is a silk blind that hangs over the front door that he pulled away to look out the door (resting on the back of his head, you can't really see it since I adjusted curves to make it darker behind him), so it gave kind of a shadow to the back of him. The rest of the highlights and shadows were done in photoshop thru curves.
Very good.
To my mind this one is a portrait, even though his face can hardly be seen. But this brilliant lighting, his chubby baby cheeks, the tip of his baby nose ... even one eye AND his lashes ... all is there.
So who agrees that this, too, is a real portrait?
Or are my definitions of what makes a portrait all wrong?
