I did make it out of focus for the effect, he was meant to be in like a dream state, while he waited for his long lost friend to return, the whole story is that I was at a customers house, she had lost her husband 4 years before, and their dog sits in that window keeping watch for him every night. So I wanted kind of a tender moment for her and him. I used a soft filter on the original and it still was not quite enough for the look I was going for. Thank you for your input though.
