Want to get back into film photography...

So I got an F100, SB-80DX, and a lens (the specifics of the lens escape me ATM). The F100 is in near-mint shape, but it is really, really dirty. Dusty, gunk on the outside, etc.

I wanted to send it to Nikon, but they said that out of warranty repair work is usually between $180 and $215, plus shipping.

So, should I clean it myself? If so, how? Should I take it to a local camera shop/Nikon dealer?

I have a k1000 that the meter is wacked out on. The needle moved but it doesn't seem to be in sync with the camera settings. I never was able to get good pictures using the meter so I switched to the sunny 16 and haven't looked back. I used to carry my K100D in my skiing back pack but I was always worried about hurting it. Now I carry the "ol' tank" and don't worry. 30' huck with the possiblity of the back pack hitting rocks... bring it on.
