What a Buzz

[Chiller]

I was out hiking on the weekend , when I heard this bush buzzing. After moving some shrubs around, I came across this. Not wanting to get too close, I strapped on my 300mm and got a couple of shots.

All was quiet at first. Just these two going about their business.

...then a couple of friends showed up and they went in

I switched lenses and went for a 18-55, and moved in closer.....

......The Snitch....Ive been caught

Then it all went crazy. This was the last pic I snapped before I was out of there. Notice the "Snitch" still there watching.

oh yeah...I only got stung once

What a series of a nest of wasps. Wow, you must be brave to get that close. No wonder you took to your heels after "the snitch" had alerted the "soldiers"!!! Whoa!

These pictures are about as close as I'll get to a wasps nest. With the way my skin reacts to mosquito and black fly bites I'd imagine I'd become a purple balloon if a wasp got me!

ha, you little sneak...the hornets saw you hiding.....chiller didnt scare the hornets much, did ya?? i think they, on the other hand, got your heart pumping....

by the way, hive you been doin'??? zzzzzzer anything new???
(ok, i'm done...i'm done..!!) ya know, you could use the sound of the hornets for your halloween stuff....that would "beee" scary!!!

Amanda...Luckily , Im not allergic to the stings, but the one that got me had a death grip on my leg before he stung me. I think he was one of the warriors there.

Aprilraven..it was really great to see them so close, but oh yeah..the heart raced a bit when the floodgates opened. That'll learn me eh?

elsaspet...I kinda got really into watching them. It was fascinating to see them in action...untill I took one for the team and got stung on the leg. I wished I had caught that show, before I went to shoot these
