Hey guys, got a question for ya. I have an eBay business selling guitars. Right now I take all my photos outside, and I have to deal with reflections, sunlight angles, and all kinds of other distractions. A buddy of mine who is into photography suggested I buy a couple of cheap softboxes and a backdrop, and set up a simple studio inside. I'm using a Canon S410 PaS camera, but I'm considering upgrading to a Canon 350D Rebel XT, since I've wanted to get into photography anyway, and this is a good excuse :)

I assume I would set the guitar up on its stand in front of the backdrop, but where would I place the softboxes? Perhaps at 45 degree angles to the guitar, 6 or 7 feet away? I'm looking for something that will let me take photos of this quality:

What is the cheapest and most effective way to setup a simple studio like this? Also, since I'm very new to photography, exactly what will I need? Do you put strobes in the softboxes and just leave them on?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Although I'm not informed enough to help you, it sounds like the images you have included in your post were not taken by you. If thats the case, you should consider changing them to links instead of direct images in the text, since that is the guideline. :)
