well i just purchased the Nikon D50 and awaiting shippment. my question is what's the greatest flash to get for all purpose use?

No worries. To capitalise on the TTL features of modern flashes you need one designed for the camera. In your case that only leaves two serious options the SB-800 and the SB-600. Anything else would be pointless as the onboard flash is fairly good already.

on B&H site, beside the item like the flashes it says imorted or USA, whats the differents? the imported is $14 cheaper...Sb-800

Should be the same flash. USA has a Nikon USA warranty; import (also called grey-market) does not but is covered by B&H (usually).
