Photos NOT OK to edit
And when someone says to find your style, or this is their style.

what does that mean to you?

Style is the personal taste, preferences and/or tendencies of the artist that over time makes their work cohesive.

I photograph in a 20th Century style, since that's when I learned photography. I see in the idiom of the late 20th Century, North American style.

do you have a example of "tendency" you could expound on or maybe a brief description of your style?

To me, "style" is a buzzword people often use to justify poor photographs.
It ranks right up there with "artistic choice"

Personally, I don't care much for the labels people use in the photography business.
"Lifestyle photography"
"Natural light photography"
"Some special style photography"

People should just be a photographer and learn how to shoot under whatever conditions are needed to get the client the results they want.

Ah, my style, honestly I've thought about it but have never been able to narrow it down to a single, or even a few descriptive words, wish I could! lol

I shoot just about anything and there are some things that do spill over from one to the next such as colour rendering, framing, and composition.

I have a tendency to look for unconventional shots of conventional subjects. I don't enjoy post work and tend to do as little as I can to an image.

All of these things come together to give my work a "look" that I think can be considered my style.

I tend to shoot natural light... because
a) I only have one off camera flash at this point and few reflectors.
b) I tend to shoot "out and about" at the zoo and such.

I tend to shoot babies (well, lots of shots of one baby), because I have a new one, and animals (see "zoo and such").

I find I tend to like to get really "up close" for many baby-shots (which I've mostly seen with adults in others).
I find I tend to like lots of shadows and light play across a person compared to others.

I find I tend to take "candid shots", though I'm looking forward to getting more lights, pulling out my backdrops (got some of those) and posing a model or three.

Is amazing a style?

It's like porn. Can't explain it, but I know it when I see it.

I don't consciously shoot a "style" mostly because the way I want to shoot something depends on what it is and what I want to capture. Personally, I think it paints you into a corner to have a certain, distinctive 'style'. It's limiting and can stifle creativity if you find yourself always shooting the same things or in the same way.

natural light, photo journalistic, candid, emotive

that is how I would describe my style. that is they type of photos my clients expect when they hire me.

If you think about it, it will drive you mad and almost certainly be false. It's something you do subconsciously, not something you plan. Strong styles that stand out; Arbus, Penn and Adams come to mind. If you can identify a photographer by looking at a print, that is style.

Wait a minute. I want to make sure I understood this right. Your style is like porn?
