What Mega Pixel is that?

I typically just answer the question in a way they would understand. If I'm shooting 35mm film I tell them 10-14 megapixels (depending on the film I'm shooting), If I'm shooting medium format I tell them 50 megapixels, if I'm shooting large format I tell them 150 megapixels.
35mm could also be 24megapix ;). In anycase I miss film...
While I'm sure there's some specialized 25iso film that may achieve that, in my experience most "pro" 100iso film is more like 10-12 mp.

Another funny little tidbit.

Most 'kids' these days don't know what the icon for 'save' is supposed to be. Most programs still use the 3 1/2" floppy disk icon for save, even though it's been obsolete long enough that teenagers don't know what it is.

In America your technology moves so fast! I can't believe that most American households no longer use landlines, here in the UK I barely know anyone who doesn't have one! I bet, because landlines have gone out of favour in the US in the past decade, that talking to someone else while connected with a cable is a bizarre concept for American youths!

I still can't believe that there are people in my age bracket that don't know about film!

I don't believe that is true. I'd guess that 97-98% of households in (North) America still have landlines.

I'm not saying that they have been removed, I'm saying people no longer pay line rental to use the landlines for phone calls. On NeoGaf there are pages of people talking about how they haven't used landlines since 2000. The same goes for watches, people don't wear watches as much as they used to, they instead rely on their phones.

Aye but I'd say that isn't a thing limited to the USA - its the same in UK and much of Europe. Lots of kids start out with their mobile phone and contract so need no need to have a landline as well as the mobile when all their phonecalls already come direct to their mobile (heck most would only even worry about the landline if they needed a broadband line for the net).

And the phone has mostly replaced the watch too.

That said I should get a new battery for my watch!

I wouldn't think that people on an internet gaming forum represent a good sample of the average American household. Heck, most of them probably live in their parent's basement ;)...and their parents probably have a land line.

But I do see your point. There are certainly a lot of households that use mobile phones exclusively now....and I'm sure it's exponentially more than there were a few years ago...and that trend will probably continue. But I'd still guess that it's a very low percentage of the whole population.

I would do it myself, seeing as my wife & I both have cell phones (and we have a land line), but the problem is that there is only one mobile for the house (and it would need to be constantly charging), where as we have 3 cordless phones and maybe another corded phones on our land line.
I do know that we could set it up, so that when we bring out mobile phones into range of our home network, the calls could be redirected to the in-house phone line...but I think that is still a bit pricey to set up.

As it is, we don't even use the traditional phone lines anymore. Our phone line is connected to a modem and it brought in via a co-ax cable line, just like our TV and internet.

Even my landline is wireless. VOIP too. ;)

Not familiar with NeoGaf, but I don't think I've had a land line since 2000, maybe 2001.

Right now, the only person I know that has one is my mom... Just cell phones for everyone else. Lately, I have actually been thinking of getting a land line though... Just as a 'back-up' to my cell phone in case something happens. Also, so I can use my fax machine that's sitting in the closet. Some places still insist that a fax is more secure than e-mail... I guess they've never heard of encryption.

Another reason you might want a land line is that cell phones cannot accept collect calls (not sure why). If you're ever in jail, and everybody you know only has a cell phone - you won't be able to call a friend to bail you out. :lmao:

I do wear a watch, but only when I'm working. My company has a stupid policy on phones, so I wear a watch to avoid getting fired.

I really doubt that, I don't know anyone who has a land line except for my parents, or businesses.

Nice. And this is why the problem with unaware kids persists :)

Hey I still have one - do I count? ;) :)

I've heard similar stories to this before, it disappoints me that even teens are ignorant about film.

The only experience I've had of this is when I came across a video on YouTube where a child was reviewing his newly found AE-1, the statement that comes to mind is "I don't know how many megapixels this thing's got". I paused and stared in disbelief.

i saw that video! i was trying to figure out what was wrong with the ae-1 i was about to buy o_-
