So, people have been asking me if Jo Cose is really my name, and that got me to thinking. Then I read the interview with JonMikal, and he was asked directly. So, here goes:
Tell us what your username means and how you got it.
I shall begin.
As I said, Jo Cose is not really my name. The 'rents are clever, but I don't think that they are actually that witty. Here's the story:
About a year and a half ago (geez, it may actually be longer), a friend of mine (who has since decided that he is better off not being my friend, but that's a different story) convinced me to start a blog. I didn't want to use my real name for a few reasons: 1) I like the mystique and anonimity (SP) of the internet, 2) I was thinking that I would be bad-mouthing my coworkers, 3) I just like the idea of being someone else on the internet (if that makes any sense). Anyway, I wanted something funny and witty and clever, so I went to the thesaurus and tried different words. I finally landed on jocose, which is perfect because it means funny and witty AND it could actually be a name: Joe Cose, or just Jo Cose. Here's the actual entry from www.m-w.com:
Main Entry: jo·cose
Pronunciation: jO-'kOs, j&-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin jocosus, from jocus joke
1 : given to joking : MERRY
2 : characterized by joking : HUMOROUS
synonym see WITTY
- jo·cose·ly adverb
- jo·cose·ness noun
- jo·cos·i·ty /jO-'kä-s&-tE, j&-/ noun
Anyway, that's how I got my username. How about you?
