The first is my favourite due to how clean and cpntrasty the picture is and the detail in the drop is nice.

What, about the second one makes it blah? Colors, composition, everything, anything? Thanks for the comments, I'm just trying to learn.

Too many competing objects in the background drawing your eye away from the water droplet. Maybe try a B+W conversion on it to see if taking the colours out of the equation improves matters at all, though I suspect it probably won't help much.
