Where do you find your models? (female variety)

I was looking for free models in exchange for pix. I hung up some flyers. Put an ad in the paper. Tried Model Mayhem. Got nothing. Was looking for clothes on, clothes off, fat or skinny, whatever. Maybe if I paid for models things would be different?

Me too! In fact I've got more Model Mayhem "work" than I can deal with. It's a great resource. How strong are your MM portfolio images and what sort of casting calls have you tried putting out?

Don't have any glamor stuff, just starting out. Was hoping to get some models that are starting out as well.

ive found getting that first person off of MM is always the toughest. i tried emailing seperate girls but didnt have much luck. so I put out a casting call. Just said I was starting out and needed someone for a shoot. and out of that I gor around 5 responces and ended up having 1 come thru. and then once i posted up the photos of that one girl and her tag and even suggest they contact her if they want to see how I am as a photographer my next casting call had over a dozen responces and I worked with a few out of that.

make sure you have a few good images on your port. If you have nothing to show them you have some skills, they wont shoot with you.

I posted an Ad on craigslist and some girl emailed me and now we plan to do the shoot this month. CL removed the ad for some reason but it was up long enough for her and few others to contact me. i just labled the title "Free Model Photography"

Ask friends, family classmates etc. to get you started on your portfolio.

One (very important) skill that a photographer (of people) needs...is the ability to talk to and interact with people. The best portrait photographers are often very outgoing. A few that I know, would have no problem walking down the street and finding a completely stranger to pose for them.

That has been one of those things for me. Photography has been a way of forcing myself to be more outgoing, and talkative. meeting someone and being able to guide a conversation and keep it going.
