Hi, Good day to the people here in TPF. I have a Nikon D7000 and I'm planning to buy a new lens. Please help me choose which lens should I buy. What are their advantages and disadvantages. Are they great for landscape, portrait, etc. Here are the 2 lens.

1. Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G AF
2. Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF

Replies are greatly appreciated :) Thanks

1) this is good for if you want to zoom in from a distance
2) this is good if you want a shallow depth of field and a normal portrait type photo.

Is 50mm can also produce shallow depth of field? Like making bokeh?

Both can "make bokeh." the 50mm can do it while having a larger field of view than the 70-300. before you decide which lens you get, you should decide what you want to do with it,a nd what you are wanting from your current lens that you're not getting.

Okay. Thanks fjrabon :)

Follow -up question. Is 70-300mm a telephoto lens?

yes, on a crop frame it's actually a pretty extreme telephoto.

it will have the equivalent of 450mm on a crop frame such as the D7000. Just note that the lens you mentioned does not have VR. But under good conditions it will be fine.
