I recently came into about $2500 and I'm going to spend it on lenses! My dream lens is the Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS. My question is does IS really ocnsiderably help stop camera shake? I really have a major problem with this on my current zoom lens. I'm torn on what other lens to get. I'd like a nice macro but I'm not sure which one. Or maybe a wide angle (that about covers it, no?) I shoot with a Canon 10D so I loose some of the wide end. Currently I have Sigma 24-70 and Sigma 70-300 4-5.6 macro. Hmmm

The 70-200 2.8 IS is an excellent lens. You can get a pretty solid shot at 200 mm at a 25th of a second, even in low light if you stay at 2.8.
My favorite wide angle, bar none, is the 35 mm 1.4 prime.

IS can't fix the unfixable, but I believe it really does help. I can very comfortably shoot at 400mm with my 100-400 IS and have not really had any shake problems. However, I've got pretty steady hands. Your best bet is to try it in the shop and see if you can get a shot in shop light at 200mm - if you can - no problem.
