Which Nikon Full Frame to Buy?... Another Comparison

I have a D800 with a grip and shoot sports all the time. Sure, if I worked for Sports Illustrated I would upgrade to a D4S for the 11 frames and buffer... but I know sports well and anticipate action with 4-6 frames per seconds in burst, I capture plenty of great shots. The picture quality of the d800 is unparalleled and, like you, I crop very regularly with sports shots.

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice, but I love my D800.

Just my 2 cents.

D800 and learn to anticipate. It's such and impressive imager...

and definitely too small AF field. It also gave a lot of new options.

I dunno why you keep insisting that the focus area is any improvement.

the 51pt focus area is hardly improved in the regards of frame coverage:

Well, true, its not a HUGE difference, but its an improvement.

(And indeed I thought it would be a bit more than that)

This is the reason why I now use Back Button Focus Lock on my d600.
It doesn't cover enough of the frame like my d7000 and the bigger d800 and up.
but it's still really good compared to other cameras.

yeah, it's the same module as the DX sensors, so in FX it seems tiny.

I use AF-L often when i need to recompose. Otherwise people end up very low in the frame.

I also only use cross-type focus points, so I only see 11 points.
