Which of these B&W conversions do you prefer?

I am working on B&W and I find most of my conversions flat and lifeless compared to the originals. I would like to hear your reasons as well as any C&C.

1 for me, but 2 isn't bad.
I've been regretting some of my tinting on older shots of late and have tried to make myself stick to straight mono.
Maybe it's just where my head is right now.

BOTH are nice in their own way! One small thing--that building on the far,far right being so close to the edge is causing considerable distraction; if it were cropped out, I think the entire scene would be even better. I think of the second image not as a black and white image, but more of a "duotone".
