Obviously, first one is taken with the flash; the second one is taken by overexposing by 4 stops after metering with lightmeter.

Interesting, it appears that welding light has more than 5600K :D

cool shots, is that some kind of crazy lens flare in the second hot?
I would have to say I prefer the second shot.

I like the second one. And for someone who teaches welding, I would have to flunk the guy on safety issues. ;)

I love the blue overtones of the second one, making it my favourite. Was that added in photoshop? Or just a product of overcompensating for the brightness of the welding?

@pursuer: Yup, terrible lens flare! I tried to burn it out in PS, but I admit I'm not familiar with forgering photos.

@KevinR: LOL, I know you have very restrictive safety standards in the USA. But this is still good for someone who once operated 18BHP heavy chainsaw while standing on the top of the roof using only one leg for standing and one arm for holding the saw

@mad_malteaser: Currently the Uploadit.org doesn't work, I'll try to post the original version later. The main PS work was attempt to burn out lens flares.

OK, Uploadit.org seems to be online again. Here's the original photo:

I think the second is a better photograph, but the first one is f-ing hilarious
