Which one is better? Photoshop touch up

I'm slowly getting used to working with Photoshop for retouching my pictures. Here's a before and after shot of my dog Brutus. I used curves then adjusted the hue and saturation. I'd appreciate any critique and advice you want to give me. Thanks.

You really brought out the colors in #2. Just that alone is more then I can do (in PS) ;)
 
Yeah he is an awesome dog and my best buddy. As for the breed he's actually a mix of German Shepherd and Keshond. He is one of three in the litter and I think he got the best of the features. His brother and sister are both huge puffy furballs which are keshond traits.

As for the pictures, I think I'll lower the saturation a bit on the second one. Now that I'm looking at it the grass does seem a bit unnatural. I'll work on that when I get home today and repost my results.

Thanks everyone for your input. It really helps a lot because I'm just getting started with Photoshop and it seems that I have a tendancy to oversaturate a lot.
