I agree with the 70-300, in my opinion 200mm is not enough for wildlife. The issue is that he has a Canon 60D so I don't think a Nikon lens is going to workActually, for just a little more money, you could get a used tamron or sigma 70-200 f/2.8 in the older non VR versions.
Other than that, i would recommend a nikon 70-300 VRII. Its a full frame lens, and can be found used in EX condition for $300-$350. I personally think it is nikons best "bang for your buck" lens.
