Photos NOT OK to edit
I have a Nikon D50 & want to take photos of kid's baseball, soccer, basketball & football. Should I get a Nikon 70-200, 75-240 or 70-300 all @ f4-5.6? Plan to get used due to cost.
thanks

The more range the better. You don't specify models so I will advise to look at the Tamron 70-300mm vc. Good value Lens

does Nikon make a 75-200? I have one of their 75-300.
with the sports you have to take into account lighting and subject distance. If it's indoors you will want to get the largest aperture possible, such as f/2.8. This also helps in easily isolating the subject. But f/2.8 are more costly than f/4 which are more costly then the varying aperture lens like a f/4-5.6

But I started out with the 70-300 equivalent and it did really nice photos for me. It had a hard time in low light situations but did great in bright lighting, and it was cheap.

What is your overall budget?

If can swing it, get the 70-200 f4 VRII, or a used 70-200 f2.8 VRI. Both of those lenses will be a huge improvement over your 70-300.

I think a Nikon or Tamron 70-300 VR / VC will be more than enough

another thing I didn't think of. If you are just sitting in the fan stands then a regular 70-300 will do
The size of a f/2.8 you would start knocking on people heads. I use s 80-200/f2.8 for outside kids sports. I can use the same lens inside but ONLY if I'm not in the stands with everyone else, otherwise I just opt for my 75-300. I guess it depends upon where you sit too.

NIKKOR 70-300mm VR (f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED)... $300 used or $350 refurbished from Nikon.

The most important thing about a lens for sports is how fast it can Auto Focus. Nikon's 70-300VR is one of the fastest. The Nikon 55-200,55-300 and Tamron lenses are just plain slow when it comes to AF speed.

The Tamron 70-300 VC is actually a tad slower than the Nikon equivalent but it's $100 cheaper new here in Canada

I'd say Nikon 70-200 2.8 VRII for all around sports, if its within your budget. If not the Nikon's 70-300VR is a great value lens but not great for most indoor sports.

If you all read original post OP is buying secondhand due cost and specified f4-5.6 probably due cost also. Recommending f2.8 lenses here is useless

I took the advise of everyone here in the forum and bought a Nikon 70-300 VR and the lens is amazing! I got it used for $300!

In daylight, the Nikkor 70-300/4.5-5.6. Under the lights, the 70-200/2.8.

I second sparky's advice... the 70-300 for indoor basketball won't cut it but will probably be fine for soccer, football, baseball. The autofocus speed of the 70-200VRI will be superior and meet both indoor and outdoor requirements, and the constant aperture is a bonus over the variable aperture 70-300

Except that the OP includes the Nikon 70-200 in the list of potentials.

All at f4-5.6. Not arguing, just saying
