Whiskey Jack

[New Hampshire]

The Gray Jay (a.k.a. Canada Jay, Whiskey Jack, Camp Robber) is a bit of an oddity for New Hampshire. They are sub-alpine birds that are normally found in Canada type climates. But because of the White Mountain National Forests unusual climate these birds are thriving in the mountains. You can find them above 3500 feet usualy, and always willing to snag food from you (or rob your backpack if they can!!!). This is perhaps not the best I could have done, but these buggers are always on the move, and this one was never still for more than a couple seconds at a time:

Yes! They have become quite used to humans and are now a main attraction on a number of mountains. They will feed right from your hand, or land on your head to take food you leave there.......just about anywheres.
