White Balance Filters

So, I was skipping around the internet today and watched some of the video on the http://abetterbouncecard.com/ site. I noticed a link on the bottom of his page regarding a white balance filter. This is actually something I had thought of making a while back and never thought to see if something like this actually existed already.

Does anyone use these:

Seem kinda steep for what they do. Couldn't you do the same with custom WB and an index card (or a bounce card that you made)?

Or a gray card. Or a Pringles can lid. Or just shoot RAW and tune to suit.

... or a polystyrene (Styrofoam) cup, or all manner of white things.

I use a piece of tin foil taped to a piece of card stock and hold it at a 45 degree angle towards the flash and ceiling. Works pretty well.

And your images don't come out red/orange/yellowish?
I would think tin foil would register blue-green... (???)

You don't need these things at all. If you can pick one up for $5 or something then why not - it'll probably end up in your junk drawer but why not.

For white balance I use a credit card that was mostly white and then just sanded off all the color. For a grey card I use a cut-out the same size as a credit card from a plastic sheet sold at a camera shop (I think it was $1.50). So I can keep both in my wallet where they're handy and actually get used.
