Though I've only seen a few images of his (luckily two were at an exhibition) I have to say I find Franz Roh's work the most inspiring. Apart from him I would also add Saul Leiter, Larry Fink, John Divola, James Fee, and Frantisek Drtikol.

Annie Liebovitz is great. That is, if I'm thinking of the same person. She's the one that takes portraits of children that are, well, a bit out there in their overall look? Surreal in a way. Right?

I think he means Jill Greenberg.
